My Story  -  I was born in Southern California, in Los Angeles, and grew up in the suburb of Glendale. I have two older sisters, no brothers, but a gaggle of cousins! We might as well have grown up as brothers and sisters because we were together so much in our youth. I attended Catholic Schools from the 1st grade all the way up through graduate school! I did have a short stint at Cal Berkeley to study Spanish. Although I am not a proficient Spanish speaker I know enough to get by.

I had a great experience as an undergraduate at Loyola-Marymount University in Los Angeles, where I obtained my B.A. in Philosophy. I was blessed to study with both a strong emphasis on St. Thomas Aquinas, but also with much of contemporary philosophy including hermeneutics and semiotics – the study of interpretation and the sign value of linguistics.

I went on to study theology on the graduate level at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California, which is a part of the Graduate Theological Union. I was blessed to be steeped not only in the long and interesting tradition of Catholic Theological thinking, but also to be exposed to mainline Protestant thought as well as Eastern non-Christian traditions. Finally, I found a real home at Holy Names University – at the time called Holy Names College – in Oakland, California. There I studied counseling with an emphasis on its Pastoral expression. This experience brought together for me the richness of all the rest of my studies together with its practical application concerning the role of wisdom in the growth of the human person.

I was ordained as a priest very young – I was only 26 at the time. I have spent 38 years of my adult life serving as a priest until I retired recently. 16 of those years were spent in parish ministry; one year as an assistant pastor, and 15 years as a senior pastor for congregations as large as 3,000 families and as few as 300 families. I also spent 22 of those years as a seminary educator in both teaching and administration. I am proud of the years I spent as a priest and happy to move on now in what I hope is an opportunity to share wisdom and grace with others as a Life Coach.

People sometimes ask me what I like to do besides read and talk with people! Well, I love to spend time with my lovely dog, Morgan, and I thoroughly enjoy photography, especially landscape and floral photography. I love sports. I like to watch golf, football, tennis, and basketball. I play golf – but very poorly! I am also the caretaker for my next oldest sister who is housebound. Most importantly, I love and enjoy my friends.
